Acts 6:3-4 (Message)
…men full of the Holy Spirit and good sense, and we'll assign them this task. Meanwhile, we'll stick to our assigned tasks of prayer and speaking God's Word."
You have a heavenly assignment! God created you with a purpose that is connected to His eternal plan. He then graced you with heavenly ability so you can complete your assignment with top marks! (Eph 4:7-16)
There are two types of assignment. One is a Leadership Assignment and the other is a supportive assignment – both are equally important! Everyone’s assignment falls into one (or both) of these categories.
Look at the context of our scripture in Acts 6. The leadership said they had an assignment and they knew they had to stick to it. In addition, they understood that without others stepping into their assignments things would get missed out. Most people will fall into the second category. There are many more assigned to support others than there are to carry a vision. Which do you feel you are?
When I was in school I have to admit there were one or two assignments that I not only didn’t get top marks in, but I received an ‘Incomplete’! In the natural my ability wasn’t quite up to the assignment. It’s good to know that I can rely on God’s Ability so I expect top marks, and I refuse to get an incomplete in my heavenly assignment!
Paul said, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision (Acts 26:19). Paul refused to get an incomplete for his assignment!
In relation to the two types of heavenly assignments, we can see them both in the following verse. Tell us about your assignment!
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
10Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various form.11If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

- Julie Beemer My assignment is to take care of you
- CATH My assignment has always been to serve others wherever I am, to meet the need is what Jesus told me to do. I therefore look for needs, to be met, serve people and meet needs in the way God shows me, whether practical, financial, spiritual etc.
- Win Norris Hey Pastor Matt....my assignment is definitely a support one (me carry a vision - eeek!!)...i completed a gifts assessment one time which i found really helpful!! and all my gifts came up as one of supporting and helping others with more 'frontline'?? gifts, my hearts desire is to see my assingment to completion but the next step on the way ahead seems to be blocked for the time being, but our God is a great and mighty God and i know His plans are to prosper and NOT harm us!!! His timing is perfect!!...with me its the old 'Lord give me patience and I want it now!!'....on a slightly different??!! note....i was just reading the messages from last year after you announced about going to Abuja....you are all such an inspiration!!! GO Ye Beemers!!! not sure what the balance between exciting and scarey is for you guys at the moment but i hope you know you can be assured you have sooo many people praying for you!! blessings and peace Win
- Kasia I LOVE my assignment as Let's Go-Travel Coordinator.
- Karen S Firstly: Excellent word PM. 2nd:God has given you the Graces etc to fullfil your assignment as Wife, mother minister. JGB.x
- Pastor Matt Thanks for all the great input - I especially like yours Julie! :o) I Peter 4 shows the two 'assignments'... 'Those who speak' refers to the Spiritual Leadership in the Body of Christ - mainly speaking of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teachers. These are the vision carries in the Body of Christ.
- Pastor Matt ... All others in the Body of Christ have the assignment to serve the vision carriers and as 1 Peter 4 says, 'And if serving'.. to do it with the strength (other versions say ability) that God provides. There is a strength that comes from God to serve! Cath is right though - sometimes those in leadership do not let others help them. This can be because they do not know how, or it could be because they are insecure. But in such cases, I like to encourage the servant to have an honest conversation with their leadership. In the end the most important thing is to continue to relay on the strength that God provides... even when working with imperfect leadership. :o)

The sad part I find is that in trying to fulfill my assignment I usually have to rely on others to allow me to serve, which is a different grace. Here lies the difficulty in that people ask for servers but want to be independent of help, choosing to do it themselves, finding it embarassing or unnecessary. So servers cannot serve, God puts it on my heart to serve someone and they say oh its all right, we can manage. They say they need help and servers but do not accept it. It does make you feel a little disillusioned and disappointed for that which you were called to do gets quelled. I thought it would be good to hear from one who trys to serve in all ways in various aspects of my life what it is like from the giving side. I am sure there are many people like me who have not been able to find their place, and its not for the want of trying. It is a two way thing, and one cannot do it alone, there has to be a need to serve, and it takes a server to know a servant heart!

It's a privilege to help you and Pastor Julie in a missionary work.
Also my assignment is: "That I was chosen and appointed, That I may go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that this fruit may be lasting"
John 15,16

For now I feel my assignment is to be a support in undergirding the Pastors in Prayer, financial giving any other support thats neccessary in completing the GoYe commission. I did not excel in school myself but 'Thank God' it is He who excels and promotes us, as we are obedient to his commands.
