This Weeks Chapters: Rom 3 – 7
Pastor Alan Morton
I love the challenge of these passages in Romans as I realise the ever increasing extent of Christ’s actions on behalf of us. "That God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:8)
This passage continues to expand on the difference between Adam’s actions and Christ’s actions:-
Rom 5:12 "sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men" Adam's actions.
Rom 5:18 "the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men." Christ's actions.
This has been one of the foundational truths I have seen ever since I accepted Jesus as my saviour.
But this has been raising any even greater challenge to me recently...
What do I produce by my actions?
From v5 I see that “God has poured out his love into our hearts” (NIV) or “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts” (KJV). If my actions are to reflect the One I love then I have to produce life and righteousness for others as well.
Jesus provided an abundance of grace for me and I need to do the same for everyone coming into contact with me.
The biggest challenge with this is my tongue and the words I speak.
In John 1:14 “[Jesus] came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
He came with words that helped other to see life and receive what he had to offer. I in contrast am often more concerned with being right than getting others to receive life. A real contrast to Jesus who always ensured that “where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that ... grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom 5:20)
I am a man of peace, called by God to carry grace and lavish his love on others!!
I am a work in progress!! Are you?

1 John 4:17 (KJV) Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
