Leadership is very intentional.
God’s intention is that we are led by Him whether we are operating in the political arena or in church. His “king will reign in righteousness ... and rule with justice. Each man will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm” (Isaiah 32:1-2).
This leadership is not just more rules, more regulations, and more burdens! But instead it is clear that God’s leadership lifts burdens and empowers. God’s leadership cares for the weak and defenseless AND yet has direction and strength for the strong. It comes from hearing the voice of the Lord.
Hearing God’s voice is not hard! Every time we read the bible He speaks! But too often we are not really listening or want to hear specific answers to our specific questions.
Our starting point has to be “Lord, I am clearing my mind, all my anxious thoughts, all my questions and all my plans. I want to be led by you today!” “What is on your heart? What is your agenda?” Our starting point needs to be His starting point – His Kingdom purposes!
As we approach our bible each day we need to remind ourselves that “all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim 3:16). That is really does “judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hew 4:12).
The rebellious are “deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction” (Isaiah 29:9) who only want to hear “pleasant things” (Isaiah 29:10) and don’t want to be confronted.
Obedient children know that they are loved and accepted but also know that there are boundaries and that those boundaries are good. Boundaries bring protection and cause us to behave well ... especially towards others. Very few people drive over the speed limit in areas where they know that there are speed cameras. We understand how foolish it is!!
So let us be led by the Lord this week ... and next week ... and continually. Our leadership of others depends upon it.
