This Week’s Chapters: Matt 26 - Mark 2
Pastor Claire Morton
In the last 3 chapters of Matthew we read about Jesus’ life from being anointed for His death through to the words of “the Great Commission”. The cross reminds us of our salvation and what Jesus accomplished for us when he died and rose again.
In Matt 26:17-30 we read the account of the Last Supper, when Jesus took the cup of thanksgiving, gave thanks and then passed it to His disciples. At that moment, Jesus took the cup that spoke of freedom from Egypt and transformed it into the cup that spoke of freedom from death. When Jesus gave thanks, He knew what His death would accomplish; He knew the victory that He would win.
Christ’s blood still speaks today. When we take communion, we are not merely remembering God walking on this earth as a man, then dying and being resurrected, we are remembering everything that He accomplished on the cross. When we take communion we should be expecting to see changes in our lives as we take hold in faith of all that he has done for us.
The blood still speaks of:
Forgiveness – We have redemption through His blood – who do you need to forgive today?
No Sacrifice – Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many – don’t live as a victim - you are a conqueror!
No Punishment – The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him – peace belongs to you today, receive His peace.
Cleansing – He will forgive us our sins and purify us – you have been totally washed clean by His blood, He has made you acceptable to Him - come, dwell in His presence.
Healing – By his wounds we are healed – receive your healing today.
Freedom – It is for freedom that Christ has set us free – No more guilt and shame, just freedom.
Victory – He disarmed the powers, triumphing over them – if you are feeling defeated, stand your ground and give a victory shout. Let those principalities and powers know that you are standing with Christ and He with you.
Holiness – We have been made holy – able to be in His presence and to stay in His presence.
Perfection – He has made perfect those who are being made holy – yes, that’s you!
Righteousness – Through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous – your relationship with God has been restored, you can walk with Him in the cool of the day, just as Adam and Eve did.
Ownership – With your blood you purchase men for God – I (You) belong to God and as such He cares for you in every way.
I encourage you to “break bread” in your families as they did in Acts around a meal and remember all that the blood still speaks of today.

- Fiona Today's reading Matt 28 couldn't be more apt for the Mission America team. After talking about the amazing resurrection of Jesus we are then commissioned by Him in v28 to "Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near ...." (message). So here we are in Atlanta (far) on the first real day of our 'mission' - exciting and expectant.
- Jane Fern Really glad to hear from the Mission America Team. glad your all getting stuck in so early!

- Jane Fern How many building faith sessions are there in this course?
- Pastor Claire This course runs for 6 weeks currently. It will start again this Tuesday evening, 17th February. All are welcome and a sign up sheet will be at the back of church this week.
- H. "Ownership – With your blood you purchase men for God"
- Becca Great insights for applying the word to our lives Pastor Clare as was the message on Sunday! As I speak I'm battling the sniffles under my duvet with a lemsip, but rather than watching the daytime detective programmes on ITV3, I've got Premier Chritian Radion on Freeview, I've downloaded Rhema's TV Channel to watch the Winter Bible Seminars on my Laptop this week (which have been great so far) and obviously I'm on this reading your thought for the day! Keep up the practical applications!

When I came to WHBC I had been a Christian for around 18 years. In that time I had attended various churches, moved in the gifts of the spirit, prayed and spoke in tongues.
I came to WHBC about 7 years ago and the first thing I attended was a class on 'getting a Grip on the basics'. I did this as I wanted to be a steward and the guidelines at that time were that you couldnt serve in any area of the ministry unless you had done getting a grip on the basics course. I didn't really want to do it but I did want to be a steward.
Bob King and Pastor Tony were my instructors and I thoroughly enjoyed the depth of teaching that they gave to me. I finished the course so built up. I discovered for the first time that the bible was the actual word of God (I did not know this).
I would like to encourage anyone to take the course. People often re-read the book after the course as it is so worthwhile.
A good ending - I was then able to be a steward and live happily ever after!!

Do we get a certificate at the end?

As well as those new to the church, Pastor Alan and I require everyone who wants to be in leadership to do this course as it sets out biblically what we believe as well as being faith building.
Certificate sounds a great idea - we'll have to work on that!

I don't understand this; I thought it was Jesus who paid the price with His blood??

Thank you for your question.
I thoroughly agree with you - Jesus paid the price with His blood. The quote I have used is from Revelation 5v9 which says speaking of Jesus "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For you were slain, And have redeemed us to God by your blood."
I paraphrased this to say "with Your blood You purchase men for God" but forgot to put capital Y's which might be where the confusion has come.
