Sabbatical: Part 1 Complete

posted 05 Feb 2008 in church news | 2 comments

This past month has not been what most would think of as a typical Sabbatical, but it has been excellent and very fruitful! The success of this past month is in large part due to Dave Beebe’s willingness to teach 4 classes this term, relieving Pastor Julie and myself from teaching responsibilities. This has enabled us to focus entirely on prayer and strategy for the coming year. A special thank you to Dr. Beebe!

Dr. David Beebe

There have been hours of meetings invested with the leadership, hours more planning Vision Sundays and Fresh Tools, and still hours more invested meeting various people interested in hooking up and running with the vision here at WHBC.

Oh, yes - and I did spend a week in Northern Ireland, teaching 12 hours in a leadership academy as well as doing a mid-week service for Pastor Paul and Karen Brady. This time away in Northern Ireland was also a great opportunity for prayer for me!

There has been A LOT OF PRAYER this month! This includes every Wednesday and Thursday, when I’ve led a focused time praying with our wonderful staff body and WHBTC students. There is a real sense that we are paving the road for the next decade in prayer.

During these times, we’ve been praying ‘about the season, in the season’ (Eph 6:18 amp) and believing for the eyes of our inner man to be flooded with light (Eph 1:17-18) – so that we know the fullness of hope to which He has called this ministry, having all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Col 1:9-10), so that we can have a walk that is pleasing to Him - and are fruitful in every good work!

Just as Daniel set his heart to pray about the season he was living in, and from that very moment, the command rang out through heaven for the Angels of God to bring skill of understanding concerning God’s heart for Israel at that time (Dan 9), so we too believe that God’s Word, His Angels and the Holy Spirit are all working together to bring us as an entire body, skill of understanding concerning the next decade of this ministry.

This is a year of new beginnings and though we’ve been able to share some of the vision for the first nine months of this year, just in the last couple days God has been speaking to me about some wonderful new beginnings He has in store as we re-launch with a FRESH VISION this Autumn. I can truly say that our prayers for, ‘skill of understanding’, for the ‘Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding into the knowledge of…’ and, ‘our Hearts being flooded with light’, and still further ‘that we might be FILLED with all spiritual wisdom and understanding concerning His will’…. are being answered!

The good news is that we are scheduling a more traditional Sabbatical later in the year!

Pastor Matt Beemer the end.
