This Weeks Chapters: Hebrew 12 – James 3
Pastor Alan Morton
We are reminded in Heb 12 v1 “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”
James 1 v12 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him”
So do we see “Trials and tests” or “Banana skins”?
Each year I have to take our car to the garage for it's MOT. A test designed to prove the road-worthiness of every vehicle of the roads in the UK. The tests are detailed and thorough. They are designed to ensure that the brakes works, the engine is not misfiring, the seat belts will hold me if I have an accident.
Each year my car passes because I maintain the car through regular services. The MOT just shows everything works fine.
But if I stopped looking after my car how soon before it would fail those tests?
Just because of that test I get into my car with confidence. I know that if I drive properly the car will work. If something happens then when I hit the brakes the car will stop.
James challenges us v22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says … the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this … will be blessed in what he does.”
Run with perseverance … look intently into the perfect law … run the race … continue to be blessed!

Kind of like at school… those who study and listen in class usually are the ones who pass the test. Those of us who daily live the word will in the same way always be able to pass the test!!

At first all tests and trials are not “nice”.
But when I look back I am so grateful for those times because it shaped me and prepared for now and future.
And I have learnt that even if I go through rough times I know that in Christ I am more than conqueror. Praise God
