This Weeks Chapters: Matt 11-15
Pastor Matt Beemer
Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
The Bible teaches we are a three part being. Created in God’s image he made us Spirit, we have a soul and we live in a physical body. The soul of man is the seat of his mind, will and emotions.
What do you think Jesus means when He says ‘You will find rest for your souls?’ How do you ‘find’ this rest?
This year’s vision is Building the House and W3 2009 refers to three ‘W’s’… Walls (what we are building), Windows (what we are seeing), and Waste (what we are clearing). This scripture fits into this last ‘W’. Anything that hinders us seeing and building the plan of God for our lives needs to be cleared out. Finding this ‘rest’ that Jesus speaks is the result of a clearing out anything that hinders our soul.
Let me know what you think!

- John Reddy Hi Pastor Matt, glad to see you made it back to your family. For me, the immediate thing that "rest for your soul" brings to mind is a freedom from the worries, anxieties and concerns of life. It speaks of not being consumed by the business of life like Martha, and spending more time waiting on the Lord, like Mary. There are many scriptures that speak into this area, but the two that immediately spring to mind are Matthew 6:25-34 "Do not worry about what you will eat ..." ) and Phillipians 4:6-9 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in all things submit your requests unto God with prayer and petition, that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, may guard your hearts and minds"
- Pastor Alan Great encouragement. That yoke Jesus speaks about also keeps us in step with the Lord. Staying in that right place of rest (peace) helps us know when we are doing the right things. When the rest (peace) is missing then we know we are either ahead of or lagging behind the Lord.
So when things in life press in on us (our soul), we have a choice - to succumb and let them overwhelm us, or pull back and spend time with Him who has overcome the world ...
