At the end of Psalm 7, David says in verse 17:
“I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.”
Notice he says “I WILL”. It is a decision of the heart. No matter what is going on around him, his choice was to give thanks. Let’s face it, David might have defeated a giant but what followed after that was pretty grim – being made an outlaw and then hunted down by Saul.
So, why did he praise God? Again, this is part of the secret. It was not in the circumstances but in who God is.
Philippians 4:4 says “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice”. It is in the Lord that we rejoice.
When we remember who He is and what He has done and we start praising Him for this, then we lift our eyes off our own circumstances and we place them on our wonderful Healer, Deliverer, and Saviour.
I often tell the story of what happened to Alan and me a few years after we had moved to Manchester. We went through a short period where it seemed like everything that could break down, did. Money was extremely tight anyway, we were not being paid properly – to scrape together enough for one thing was hard enough but almost impossible for all the things that seemed to be happening. The last straw was one morning when Alan went out to start the car and there was nothing from the engine at all, even after trying to jump start it.
When Alan told me, it was like a switch went off in my head. I went into the sitting room closed the door put a praise album on as loud as I could and I just danced and praised God at the top of my voice. The enemy wanted to beat us down and make us despair but no way was I letting him have the victory.
Praise God! It turned out to be a minor problem, easily fixed.
I want to exhort you to discover this secret and to keep praising God, whatever the circumstances for He is always worthy of praise because He saved you!

I find it really funny when I decide afresh to praise, and then things get even worse, the enemy HATES us praising, but because I've been praising, I don't even care, he can try whatever he likes, I know my God is faithful!!!
Great word Pastor Claire!
