As a child my father would many times make me read Proverbs as a punishment.
I've heard from some Christian parenting experts that you shouldn't use
bible reading as a punishment because it can leave a negative association to
the Word of God. And that advice may be good advice in general. However, I
benefited significantly from reading and sometimes even repeatedly coping
verses like writing lines in school.
Over the years many have commented that I have a lot of wisdom for someone
my age. I am convinced that one reason is because I read the book of
proverbs over and over and over and over. Not just when being punished, but
especially as I grew through my teenage years, I saw that value of Proverbs
as a source for wisdom and would often read it straight through.
So my challenge to you as you read proverbs this month, don't let it be a
one time thing. Continually go back and visit this source of wisdom and I'm
certain that doing so will cause you to
Happy New Year!

- Karen S I too PM have decided Joe and I will read and meditate through the book of Proverbs and Ecclesiates this month. Can't see how instructing your child through study of the word would have a negative effect, only if that child operates in a way contrary to Gods word but that is to do with the flesh operating not the spirit within. Blessings Y'all.

That made me laugh Pastor Matt.
What I like about Proverbs is: it's a conversation between the father and his son and it made me think we can speak this way to our children. Imparting Bible wisdom through different situation in their everyday life.
I like it, it's very practical
