This Week’s Chapters: 1 Peter 4 - 2 Peter 3

In this weeks reading there are two of my favourite chapters which I often use when preaching on the subject of missions. The first chapter is Peter's ‘End Time Handbook' in which Peter lists four things the church should be doing in these last days. He starts by saying…
1 Peter 4:7
But the end of all things is at hand…
Lesson: Then he lists that what we should do:
1) Pray
2) Above all, Love
3) Be hospitable: which in the New Testament means to love the foreigner and anyone who is not like you
4) We must all use our gifts to serve each other
The second is Friday’s chapter… 2 Peter 3.
In this chapter Peter is also talking about the coming of the Lord and the key verses for me are…
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance…
v12 - looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God….
Lesson: Jesus wants to come back, but first he’s waiting for the church to get her act together and reap this end-time harvest of souls. In verse twelve we see that we can ‘hasten’ the Lord’s coming. The Greek word used here means – ‘Speed’. So Peter is saying the church can speed the coming of the Lord! Let’s be doers of this passage and live in such a way to speed the Lord’s return!

Pastor Matt, I felt that 1 Peter 4:V8 & 10 speaks loudly to me. Although everything that we are ask to do a believers in these verses are important, i felt that the instructions in verses 8 and 10 are especially relevant to the body today. With the love of many, even those of the faith waxing cold and the fear of error in the church hindering many from serving one another,we need to stretch ourselves in these areas. Once we understand that what we do collectively as the body has a direct influence is the coming of our Lord,we will live differently. Praise God. I love this message, keep it coming.

I love this as it speaks volumes, and if each one of us took time out to pray and listen to God, love and offer hospitality to just 1 person, we would see more people giving their life to Christ!
Use the lessons as exercise for your heart, if you follow ALL of them your heart will feel like it has had one almighty work out and you will feel GREAT! Praise God!

hey, pastor matt, The verse that stood out to me was the last part of II Peter 3:9 -"God is not willing that any should parish, but that all should come to repentance....” this reminds me of II Corinthians 5:19 - “...and committing to us the message of reconciliation. vs 20 - so we are Christ’s ambassadors.” Like you said, Matt, the church has to get busy......I have to get busy being an ambassador for Christ. letting God’s love shine through me to the unsaved. Thanks for the Word of encouragement to me to get going. love, your proud mom
