The evening kicked off with games for the little kids; Pass the parcel, musical bumps, musical statues with prizes and sweets galore! Then we got to eat! Everyone brought food to share, so there was a wide selection of really good food and plenty to go around. Even after people went for seconds there was loads left over....
Then it was the Chocolate game, normally a favourite of… well practically everyone! But everyone was so stuffed from all the food, for the first time ever in the history of mankind, the teenagers were not scrabbling to get the chocolate!
After this the band got up and played a selection of golden oldies including ‘The Final Countdown’, ‘We Are the Champions’ and ‘One Love’. The music was great, but I think we were all a bit worried about Alistair, who did an almost too good impression of Tina Turner in ‘Simply the Best’ - a man should not be able to sing that high!
After this there were more games, dressing models up as the Statue of Liberty using toilet paper, guessing the price of Christmas items and more. Then after round two of the music, just before midnight, it was time to worship and thank God for a brilliant year. Then the countdown… and hello 2009!
We had a really good time of prayer, dedicating this New Year and rededicating our lives and the city to God. There was such a strong sense of God’s presence and expectancy for this year!
