Hope – A Change Of Perspective

This Weeks Chapters: Phil 2 – Col 2
Pastor Alan Morton

The Apostle Paul writes in Col 1 v3 “I always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus … the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven”

Hearing testimonies of the things that others are doing through their faith is always a source of encouragement but how much more when it comes from people that we know, from people that we have invested in, from people that we love.

That testimony is even sweeter when we hear that testimony coming from a faith that was inspired by love.

Faith and love working together are the qualities we always want to see in people around us. These are qualities we want other people to see in our lives. When faith and love are present so much can happen.

Hope is the initiator, the catalyst for these two working together. A quality that we have in abundance, “stored up in heaven”, ready for us to use.

Hope is a settled, solid confidence … a certain expectation … a springboard for faith and love to operate in every situation we find ourselves in.

Our hope is stored up for us in heaven. This store is something we are supposed to draw on and the supply is endless, inexhaustible. This changes our outlook on all things. When our expectation is for things to work, situations to change then we walk with a spring in our step. We cannot help but be optimistic in our view of life.

Hope is rooted in the future but affects the current now reality. It works strangely in reverse. Instead of thinking about our actions today and how they will affect our future, we realise that because our future is secure we can do things differently today. The focus changes!

Hope causes us to see that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him” Rom 8 v28.

With this confidence fear cannot prevent us from doing good to others. When there are situations when we can give to others then hope helps us to stop thinking about what we will not have if we give them what we have. Instead we see the blessings that are about to come from our giving.

When we know that there is an inexhaustible supply of something then we just use it. So what today is hope releasing in you? What expectation are you walking around with? This is a day of exciting possibilities – pre-planned by God so that our faith and love can flow – look for the opportunities! the end.

Breathing Daily with God is an opportunity for the Pastors to share their thoughts on the chapters we have been reading in our daily bible reading plan.
