So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. Luke 5:11
Jesus was preaching near a lake (read Luke 5:1-11) and because of the crowds, He asked Peter if He could use one of the tools of his trade – his fishing boat.
When finished, Jesus responded to Peter's willingness to partner with his ministry by blessing his business in an exceptional way. To a fisherman, fish are money. BIG fish mean BIG money, and A LOT of fish mean A LOT of money!
Completely against the trends ('having fished all night and caught nothing'), Peter brought in what must have been the greatest haul of fish (money) he had ever caught! So many fish (money) that not only was Peter blessed personally, he couldn’t cope with it all by himself - and the blessing overflowed to his business partners!
If Peter where a home-builder, it would be like he had just won a contract for 1000 homes. If a salesman, it would be like he just landed a sale that all his colleagues would talk about for years to come. If a stock trader, like he had just earned his annual salary in one trade!
Try to imagine a good parallel in what ever kind of work you do. Then ask yourself, how would you have responded? Well, how did Peter respond?
Having just had the most financially life-changing day in your life, could you, like Peter, just walk away from it all? If not, ask yourself a very important question – why not?

Great word! So often we focus on the massive blessing yet seeing God do such big things for us often leads us to doing big things for him.
Its as we see just how amazing He is that we dare to believe that He really can look after our futures. Following Jesus is so much more fun than chasing temporary riches.
Lets keep this word to “follow” in our hearts, it keeps us young in spirit, fresh in strength & clear in vision.

Thank you for this verse. It made me cry! as all that i want to do is to live on purpose to follow Jesus and seek the lost.
Living with someone who is a Christian (he just doesnt know it yet!
AMEN) can be very difficult when it comes to explaining fish, so I put all my trust in God!
I wear the full armour of God, and the devil had better watch out! I will pass any test that comes my way! Praise God!

Ooooo! Very thought provoking. The day Alan handed in his notice to the firm he worked at in London to work fulltime in the ministry, he was offered a 50% rise, a company car and a directorship of one of their flagship companies! Alan didn’t hesitate to turn this down as he knew that God had spoken so clearly to us. We can honestly say that we have never regretted this decision. God’s faithfulness has amazed us and our life is so much richer and fuller because of this decision.

Hi Pastor Matt, thanks for another great word.
The catch that day was so big that two boats were nearly sinking with the load, and it would not suprise me if such an enormous catch was also God’s Provision for Peter’s Commission - so valuable that he could pay off all his debts, provide for his family, and be free to follow the Lord and enter the ministry..
Deut 8:18 “it is the Lord God who gives you the power to get wealth, so that his covenant may be established ...”

Thank you pastor Matt, very thought provoking…
On another subject, can’t wait for September training centre. That was for me by the way. Last year i actually started to put down some ideas of how the training centre could be more flexible time wise. And i thought about open university model(na-ah not appropriate), weekends(nah), @night. How perfect. I can’t wait.
