This Week’s Chapters: Mark 13 – Luke 1
Pastor Claire Morton
What are you watching? Eastenders, Neighbours, Sky Sports? Your bank balance? Sale prices? The news? The stock market?
Mark 13 v 33 says “Be on guard! Be alert”. Verse 35 says “Keep watch … “ Later on in 14 v 38 Jesus says to his disciples “Watch and pray so that you do not fall into temptation”
Today, around us there are so many things clamouring for our attention. In our homes there are TV’s, magazines, junk mail, the internet, games consoles. Outside the home there are billboards, advertisements on buses, indoor shopping malls, Sunday shopping.
There are so many things that could take our time from our families, from our husbands or wives, from our friends but most of all from God.
Are we watching our lives? Are we ready when the devil comes to deceive us? (see 13v5) Is the Word in our hearts and on our lips?
13v 36 says “If He (Jesus) comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping”.
We need to stay alert and watch our lives. When was the last time you spent a whole day with your kids, took your wife/husband out for dinner, had your friends over. When was the last time you said sorry for something you did rather than hiding your mistake under the carpet? Do you need to ask for forgiveness?
When we keep our relationship with God right, there is no guilt, no shame, no unforgiveness, no sleeping.
Let’s stay alert! God is watching, are you?

Hi Pastor Claire
Challenging word. Your last words are the answer.
We must keep our relationship so sweet and focused with our loving Father God. In my life I have found that when I let THINGS! come before my relationship with my Father everything goes wrong. Firstly my peace goes and that is the worst thing that happens. After that I soon become physically tired and short tempered. Not a good thing to happen. Bless God for His tender mercy and forgiveness. We are ever learning. Thank you dear Pastor Claire.

Hi Pastor Claire,
Thanks for such an encouraging word and timely advice. I read your word what struck me was just how many of the distractions you listed not only take up our time, but are channels designed specifically to get the seed of the world into peoples lives.
Unless we are vigilant the seed of these distractions could so easily permeate our thought lives and hearts, in the same way as weeds can take over an untended flowerbed, and cause us to be less productive or worse start bearing the wrong sort of fruit.
That said, it is so reassuring to know that our Father is the gardener, and that the time we spend with him and reading his word will ensure we stay fertile and continue to bear good fruit, fruit that will last ...
